Safety tip DON’T KEEP YOUR WALLET/PURSE IN YOUR JEANS’ BACK POCKET

To avoid being pickpocketed, keep your wallet in your front pocket, especially a pocket that can be buttoned up. Best of all, use the inside pocket of your jacket. There are also a load of different ‘money belts’ (see examples here) that either hang inside your shirt or wrap around your waist (under your shirt), etc. Make sure it’s waterproof because travelling can often be sweaty/perspiringwork. I’d advise against the bum bag/fanny pack varieties. There is no better way to advertise the fact that you have a load of valuables on you…and, of course, they were never ever cool.

The recent industrial action by French crew at Brittany Ferries left the entire fleet unoperational and caused havoc for travellers and companies that rely on shipping their goods between England, France and Spain.

Cancellations can be caused by adverse weather conditions and technical failures. If the seas are stormy, ferries may be pulled or delayed for safety reasons.

Christopher Jones, press officer at Brittany Ferries, comments: “Our  Portsmouth – Cherbourg service is operated by catamaran, the Normandie Express. This type are not permitted to operate when the wave height exceeds 3.5m. During recent bad weather, we therefore suspended this service and re-routed passengers onto our Portsmouth-Caen service.”

Samsung Galaxy S6 dimensions confirmed

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 hasn't yet surfaced in live images, but based on numerous leaks, we can now paint a pretty accurate picture. Yet it seems that case manufacturers have precise details ahead of launch. After two rounds of case renderings of yesterday and the day before, now we're being treated to a set of drawings, detailing the dimensions of the future flagship.

Digging down further into the details, the precise dimensions of the cutout on the back reveal a pretty large camera and sensor cluster and confirm the change of layout. In typical Samsung fashion, the left side is home to the volume rocker, while the power button is on the right. The bottom cutout arrangement leaves room for a microphone, USB port and a speaker, which was on the back the previous generation. The top will house a 3.5mm headphone jack and a secondary noise-cancelling microphone. The drawings are accompanied by an actual manufactured unit

Lava launches Iris Alfa 4.4 KitKat smartphone

Lava's new droid costs only INR 6550 (around €90/$105) and brings the usual combination of midrange hardware and Android software. The Iris Alfa runs Android KitKat 4.4, 5" 854 x 480px IPS display, has a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board storage, a microSD card with support for up to 32GB of expansion.

On the front the Lava Iris Alfa has a VGA camera while the back-mounted snapper is a backside-illuminated 5MP unit with LED flash. A battery of 2,200mAh capacity is charged with running all that hardware daily. The phone has dual-SIM capabilities as well.

The Windows Phone 8.1 device features a Snapdragon chipset with a quad-core processor, Adreno 302 GPU and 512MB of RAM. The 4GB internal storage can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD. Screen size is 4 inches with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution. A 4MP camera on the back is the primary shooter, and you get a VGA front unit, mostly useful for video calls. Rather basic specsheet, but adequate at the price point. The dual SIM phone packs a generous 1,920mAh battery in a body measuring 125 x 64 x 10.6mm with weight kept at 125g. Replaceable back covers in a choice of white, green and orange will be available.
