Chiang Mai is rife with volunteer opportunities
As travellers, it’s crucial to give back to the communities we visit, so why not considervolunteering? Chiang Mai is rife with volunteer opportunities, whether with the environment, animals, or people. The most lauded option is the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, which runs a well-respected rehabilitation centre for elephants. They accept volunteers for anywhere from one day to two weeks. Here, a volunteer stint might see you bathing elephants, assisting in conservation programmes, or working with local Karen tribes to retire elephants from trekking camps. If you prefer smaller wards, ENP also runs a dog rescue facility, with volunteering opportunities up to 4 weeks.
For those curious about volunteering with local communities, the Thai Freedom House in Chiang Mai runs a not-for-profit educational centre focusing on job and language training for refugees. Volunteers typically help by teaching English or working in the office, with stays from one to two months. There’s also Art Relief International, a volunteer organisation that offers therapeutic art classes to disadvantaged social groups, with opportunities as diverse as running the classes to helping with the programme logistics.

Safety tip DON’T KEEP YOUR WALLET/PURSE IN YOUR JEANS’ BACK POCKET
To avoid being pickpocketed, keep your wallet in your front pocket, especially a pocket that can be buttoned up. Best of all, use the inside pocket of your jacket. There are also a load of different ‘money belts’ (see examples here) that either hang inside your shirt or wrap around your waist (under your shirt), etc. Make sure it’s waterproof because travelling can often be sweaty/perspiringwork. I’d advise against the bum bag/fanny pack varieties. There is no better way to advertise the fact that you have a load of valuables on you…and, of course, they were never ever cool.

Visit land of gold Myanmar
Here at Stray, we’re big fans of getting off-the-beaten-track, so we’re extra excited to say ‘hello’ to Myanmar (Burma), the newest addition to our network of hop-on-hop-off trips in Southeast Asia. This lesser-visited country has long been closed to tourists, but is now slowly opening up for travellers. As a country of diverse cultures, unique spirituality and stunning natural beauty, we can’t wait to get you there.
On offer are the new Mandalay Adventure pass, an 11 day trip through Myanmar’s most alluring sites, and the Yangon Arrival Pack, a 3 day immersive intro to the old capital.
You’ll get to watch the sunrise over more than 3000 ancient temples in Bagan, immerse yourself in the old ways of life in Mandalay, explore the colonial hill station of Pwin Oo Lwin, relax on a slowboat down the famous Irrawaddy River, indulge in Shan home cooking in Kalaw, and see the traditional ‘leg-rowing’ technique of Intha fishermen in Inle Lake. How to Save Money While Traveling
Just because you splurged on the trip, doesn’t mean you have to sit in your hotel room the whole time. With a little bit of work ahead of time, you can escape the resort without breaking the bank. Here are four easy ways that you can save money while traveling:
Sign Up For Local Deals – about a month or two before you travel to a new city, sign up for local deals in that city through Groupon, Amazon Local, and other similar sites. They’ll often have discounts on everything from zoo passes and concert tickets to skydiving and massages.
Join The Mailing List – if you have your heart set on a local museum or attraction, see if they have an email mailing list you can join. This is a great way to find out about special promotions and offers that may only be available to subscribers.
Book Ahead – not only is it easier to shop for and compare excursions and private tours ahead of time, but you can sometimes get a discount for booking in advance, as well.
Watch the Tripfeed – we partner with various companies to provide our travelers with exclusive offers on tours and attractions in select cities. These messages will show up in the Tripfeed in your TripCase app. Just because you splurged on the trip, doesn’t mean you have to sit in your hotel room the whole time. First Time Travel in Sentosa
This is not my first time to visit Sentosa Island but everytime I go there, they always have something new to offer, so it is as if my first time. This is one of those places that you need to spend a day or two just to enjoy it since your paying a HUGE amount of money for the experience :)
How to go?
You have lots of options:
Cable Car - this would be the the most exciting way to go there for $26SGD located in Harbourfront. And yes, i tried it on my first visit and you will be able to see the aerial view of the city.
Express Train - If $26SGD was quite expensive for you, then take the train in Vivo City for $4SGD only. This is a smaller version of MRT.
Sentosa Boardwalk - If you're up for a long walk and want to have a little bit of exercise during your trip, then take this option. There are walkalators on the Boardwalk with gaps just to lessen your stress. This will only cost you $1SGD to enter Sentosa (CHEAPEST)

Wonder of Merlion Park In Singapore
This park gets its name from the famous statue which adorns its lawns. The Merlion is a fish and lion mix and the national symbol of Singapore. The park is located near Marina Bay and is home to two of the famous Merlions, the mother Merlion and her cub. The park was designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board in 1964 and officially opened in 1972. The Merlion figure with the head of a lion and body of a fish perched on a wave became so popular it became a cultural icon. It represents Singapore's origins as a fishing village. The original name was Singapura or "lion city" in Malay.
The statue itself stands in front of the Hotel One Fullerton. The Merlion is 8.6 meters tall and weighs 70 tons and its cub is 2 meters high and weighs 3 tons. It is constructed from cement fondue and was created by Lim Nang Seng. The Merlion faces east which is the traditional source of prosperity and a fountain pours out of its mouth. When the Esplanade Bridge was completed in 1997 the statue could not be viewed from the waterfront as before. This resulted in the Merlion being relocated 120 meters from its original position to where it stands today in front of the Fullerton Hotel.
